In America, the Scots were sometimes looked down on by the other European immigrants. The English, Dutch, and the Germans felt that the Scots were somewhat barbaric and less orderly. Although the Scots were thought of as barbaric, they were also thought of as great fighters. They were always put on the front lines of battles against the Indians. People soon found that their stereotypes were wrong about the Scots.
The Scots not only were great soldiers and fighters, they were great Americans. Many Scotsmen were highly regarded political figures, and many of them signed the Declaration of Independence. Some of these famous political figures were Aaron Burr, Alexander Hamilton, James Monroe, James Buchanan, and John K. Polk. The Scottish have given America many great political figures.
