Most of Italians who immigrated to the United States immigrated during a forty year span from 1880 to 1920.  Most of these immigrants were from Southern Italy and Sicily.  The Italians were believed to be anarchists and very violent.

Many Italians were related to the Mafia and movies have been made like The Godfather and Goodfellas that reinforce this fact.  Most Italians were devout Catholics.  During the last decade, a large uprising in the interest in learning the Italian language has occurred in the United States.
