Great Britain has ruled Palestine for three decades, and because of that, and many more reasons, Palestinians are fighting back. Back then, the land of Arabs and Jews (present day) once had been theirs. It was the land of Palestinians (and few Jews). Then, the Jews were freed by the Russian army and the European colition army(which included some countries in Europe and also included the U.S.A.); they had no where else to go, so they went to Palestine. Britain didn’t want to let them in because they owned Palestine, but the Jews were able to find a way to get in. Jews already in were able to sneak them in. Some Jews even risked their lives when they tried to get in by boats.
Arabs considered Palestine as their home. They didn’t want anything to do with Jews, and Jews didn’t want anything to do with Arabs. It was a battle that had just begun and opened the doors to 50 years of war. It all began in the year of 1947 when the United Nations suggested the division of Palestine. They decided that they would be putting the Jews under the maximum control of the territory. Palestinians thought this was very unfair. Finally the United Nations voted for the division of Palestine. Israel would be for Jews, and Jordan for Arabs. But why did the UN (United Nations) pick this area to make a Jewish homeland? It wasn’t really the UN that picked that area, but the Jews already living there, they wanted to make it a Jewish land.
Lines are being drawn again. Palestinians will no longer withhold their fight (a war is not really happening now, but a conflict), for what belongs to them is no longer theirs, their land. When the Palestinians were replaced by the Jewish state, they felt as if a horrible mischief was happening to them. Many wars occurred. One of those wars was called the War of Independence in 1948. It left 700,000 and plenty more of homeless Palestinians. There was also poverty and discrimination to the homeless Palestinians in their countries. Years later, in 1967, more Palestinian refugees (200,000), the PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization), were identified as the official political body for the Palestinians. The PLO had many goals. There are now over 4 million Palestinians. The PLO represents them and more. They have a dream for their land to be a true state. Their dreams are no longer going to be fantasies.
What is keeping the Jews and Arabs from peace? Many things are. But some things that are keeping them from peace are that they aren’t very happy with each other, or with anyone. They didn’t choose this. The Arabs feel robbed, betrayed, wanting to fight, but that will do no good. What’s keeping them from peace is just everything that’s going on. They need to come to an agreement. An agreement that is fair for both.
Who was Ariel Sharon? Many people don’t know this, but Ariel Sharon was the prime minister in Israel. He was the prime minister from the years 2001 to 2006. He was always trying to see and find a way to have a part of action in the Israeli-Arab wars. He wanted the conflict to continue “without rules”. He even did things on purpose to help the conflict. But sadly a stroke was the last thing that stopped him from any other of his actions.
How do the Jews and Arabs feel about this conflict happening right now? How do they feel? They feel afraid, insecure, everywhere they go they’re afraid. They’re afraid of life. I think everyone, and mostly them, want everything to be over. They want everything to end their way. But will it? Only destiny will tell us. Because if this continues, not only will it affect that part of the world, but the world itself will have to take sides.
