The Secret Life of Salt

Salt is a substance which most people take for granted. It is more complex than what you see on the table during dinner. Salt has many different chemical compounds that it comes in, resulting in different tastes, colors, etc. Salt has also played a big role in history. It has affected some of the English language, where people prefer to live, and has even been used as a form of currency. Now isn't that interesting?!

Many years ago, salt was difficult to find because we didn't know how to harvest it from the sea. This made it extremely valuable. The wish to obtain salt caused a few wars. Eventually, people learned how to harvest salt from the ocean and from deep in the Earth. Because they now had more salt available, it's value declined.

Nowadays, scientists have been able to study salt more, and have revealed information to the public. We now know that although salt is important to our survival, having it in great quantities might not be the best thing for your health. One way to avoid bad health is by adding less salt to your food.
