[Great Wall of China] [Slave Trade] [Working Conditions][Geography][Audience]

Around the world, slavery had taken its toll. Not one person could escape the terrible effects of slavery. One place where slavery was very strong during the 1206-1290 was in Asia, particularly in China. China has a limitless amount of slaves who get paid at a cheap price. They have to work for many hours, so China’s wealth depends on these serfs and slaves. You might be wondering the difference between serfs and slaves. Well, serfs are people who could not speak up or testify in courts, like slaves. However, they were attached to the land they worked on, and performed duties for their master. After they did their duties, they were free to go around without the supervision of their master. Slaves are people who were conquered or born by slave parents and they belonged to their master, who could make them do anything at any time. Also, slaves were not allowed to go anywhere without the supervision or approval of their master, and the owner could also sell him. China was no exception to serfs and slaves, as was around the world. Slaves are still in existence in China today, to some extent. Most slavery was abolished, and then redone throughout China’s many years. Slavery existed everywhere around the world, not only in the United States or China.
