[Africa's slavery] [King Alfonso] [Geography]

Did you know that most slaves were brought to America from Africa? If you read this, you will learn many things such as how slavery began in Africa, what places in Africa had a large growth of slavery, and kings who couldn’t prevent slavery in their kingdoms.

Slavery began in Africa due to many things. An example was while wars were occurring, people were held captive and captured as slaves. Only a few of them were military leaders and soldiers. Other slaves became servants for kings, or did more physical unwanted jobs. If they were servants for kings, they would get anything they desired except for their freedom. Another reason was because Africa was a country that was very weak at the time, and for another country to conquer it was extremely easy. A system called the Trans-Atlantic slave trade brought Africans to the Americas, who were then sold and put to labor. Although this system over time was banned and outlawed, the slaves’ owners became lazier and lazier, becoming more desperate for slaves. In 1850 in Brazil, the African slaves were called “contract laborers,” making it seem as though they had the rights to sign contracts. However, they did not get the privilege their owners promised them. The owners would use whips to make African slaves work beyond their abilities, while the Europeans’ high rank rulers made great amounts of money. As you can see, slavery in Africa started from small things, which got larger and larger until things got out of hand for not only the government, but for the whole world.
