States who abolished slavery

[Battling Enslavement][Countries who abolished slavery][Europe today][Geography and economy]

In Europe, of all the places, Great Britian had the strongest abolitionist movement. In 1787, a group of Christians joined the Quakers to make a movement called the Society for the Abolition of the Slave Trade. It was led by William Wilberforce and Thomas Clarkson, they began to force other European countries to abandon the Slave Trade as well. However, they were opposed by English merchants, planters, and King George III himself. They were all on slavery's side, because it made their life much easier. However, they did not give up. Thomas Clarkson was skilled in many things, including political drives, abolition efforts, and other slavery-related things. Another movement called the Age of Enlightenment told people that all human beings had equal rights, and so slavery was a wrong thing to do. The American and French Revolution had slaves and other poorly treated people fight against their owners and lords against slavery. Both the American Revolution and the French Revolution turned the Age of Enlightenment Movement into a larger gathering called for freedom and liberty.
