Around the world, slavery had taken its toll. Not one person could escape the terrible effects of slavery. Several places where slavery was very strong during 1206-1800 were China, Europe, Africa, and the United States. China has a limitless amount of slaves who get paid at a cheap price. They have to work for many hours, so China's wealth depends on these serfs and slaves. Some Arabians even captured and tortured Chinese slaves until they gave up their paper making secret. Close to China, Europe was having slavery problems of its own. Abolitionists were working hard to destroy slavery. Some people such as George Fox and Aphra Benn wrote books against slavery. Other people such as William Wilberforce led a parliamentary capaign. The Nazis put Jewish slaves in concentration camps and worked them to death as a result of forced labor in World War II. Almost next door to Europe, African slaves were being exported through the Trans- Atlantic Slave Trade. Due to the fact that Africa was a weak country at the time, it was extrememly easy for neighboring countries to conquer them and use the people as their slaves. Part of the reason why Europe got slaves from Africa was because Africa was weaker in power than Europe. Women were valued greater than men in Africa because they could give birth. Across the Atlantic Ocean, the United States was having troubles of its own. President Abraham Lincoln was fighting against the whole United States population trying to convince them that slavery was wrong. He declared war against the southern owners and invited the slaves from the south to fight against their own owners. They got to the north by a route called the Drinking Gourd. Overall, slavery influenced the world greatly.
