The First Three

The First Crusade was suggested by Pope Urban 11. It went from 1095 to 1099 being led by Peter the Hermit, Walter the Penniless, and other people. They tried to take over Jerusalem, the Jews, Muslims, and Christian's Holy-Land.Jerusalem was important to the Christians because that is where Jesus, their god, was born. For Muslims, it was where their holiest mosque was and where Muhammad spent the night in heaven. For Jews,it is the capital of their country and contains the Western Wall, which is one of the holiest things in their religion. When knights got to jerusalem, they killed everybody, whether they were Jewish, Muslim, men, women, or children. They only held Jerusalem for small periods of time because the Muslims kept taking it back.In the First Crusade, all of the Jews and Muslims in jerusalem were killed. The Second Crusade wasn't worth it and only ended in a failure for the Catholics and a win for the Muslims. It was in 1147 and ended in 1149. it was led by King Louis 7. It started out as a big expedition that accomplished so little and ended in humiliation. It was a blow to the Catholic's pride and the king's honor. The Third Crusade was called by Pope gregory 8. as a way of making up for the Second Crusade's failure. It lasted for four years, starting in 1188. The crusaders didin't manage to recapture Jerusalem. They did kill many Muslims, wives, and children on King Richard the Lion-hearted's order. None of these Crusades were needed, but there were still four to follow.
