Alkali Metals
Lithium/3/metal/alkali metals. Lithium in greek means stone. Lithium is the lightest of all metals with a density of half of water. Lithium does not occur freely in nature. It is found in small units in all igneous rocks and in many mineral springs. Lithium is produced from electrolyzed fused chloride. Lithium is silvery in appearance like Sodium/11/metal/alkali metal and Potassium/19/metal/alkali metal. Lithium turns a beautiful crimson color to a flame and when the metal burns strongly the flame turns white. Since WWII the production of Lithium has increased greatly.
~Sodium/11/metal/Alkali Metal. In Latin it means headache remedy. It is the forth most abundant metal on earth. Sodium is very reactive. With moisture, it can burn water and eat through anything; however Sodium can't react in mineral water. It is also the most abundant in its group. Sodium is used in the body's nervous system to transport messages instantly. We obtain Sodium through sodium-chlorine, table salt, which is made of Sodium and Chlorine/17/nonmetal/Halogens. Sodium is produced by electrolyzing sodium-chlorine.
~Potassium/19/metal/Alkali Metal. This name is formed from the word potash (a rock). It is the seventh most abundant metal in the earth. It is hard to obtain; however, sylvite, carnallite, langbeinite, and polyhalite are found in ancient lakes and sea beds, with extensive deposits, Potassium can be obtained.
~Rubidium/37/metal/Alkali Metal. In Latin it means deepest red. It is the 16th most abundant element on Earth. It occurs in pollucite, leucite, lepidolite, and zinnwaldite. Which it is mostly obtained from.
~Cesium/55/metal/Alkali Metal. In Latin it means sky blue. It occurs in lepidolite, and pollucte. The worlds richest source of Cesium is located at Bernic Lake, Manitoba. It is estimated to carry 60,000 tons of Cesium out of the 300,000 tons of pollucte. It is characterized by a spectrum containing two bright lines in the blue along with lines of red, yellow, and green.
~Francium/87/metal/Alkali Metal. It was named after France. It was discovered by Perey Curie the husband of Marie Curie who discovered Radium. It is created by the disintegration of Actinium/89/metal/Actinid Series.
