In 1412 Joan of arc was born into a time when the world was prejudice and the odds were against her. She went on to change her world and inspire generations to come. She is a heroin for the people of this age as well as for the people of the past. She was born in the small village of Domremy in France. In her early life Joan lived on a 50 acre farm, were she often helped out with the work and chores. During her lifetime the hundred year war was taking place between her home country of France and England. The war was fought in dispute of the border between the two countries. While Joan played by a large tree in her village, she was about 13 at the time, Joan experienced a vision. She saw angels who told her of her destiny. They told her that she was meant to fight for her country and join in the kings’ coronation. Joan went on to fulfill all that the angels had predicted. The next year Joan predicted that the current war would take itself into Orleans and she was right. Evidence shows that Joan was probably a brilliant strategist, in more ways than one. She worked her way all the way up the power chain to the king. In her audience with him she told of her visions. He believed that she must be speaking the word of god and sent her to Orleans, were she drove out the British. Her military career was short and a after a few more victories she was captured by the enemy. Joan was passed around from prison to prison. At one time Joan even jumped from a 50 ft tower in an attempt to escape. She was put on trial and burned several weeks later. She remains an inspirational figure for generations to come. |
