Genetically Modified Organisms

What are the Benefits?

One benefit of using genetically modified seed is the ability to double the amount of crops harvested in one season, while using little to no fertilizer. Using genetically modified seeds enhances resistance to disease and drought. Also, it is possible to prevent crop destruction by increasing resistance to certain natural pests.

"Genetically modified foods (GM foods or GMF) offer a way to quickly improve crop characteristics such as yield, pest resistance, or herbicide tolerance, often to a degree not possible with traditional methods. Further, GM crops can be manipulated to produce completely artificial substances, from the precursors to plastics to consumable vaccines."
