In 1758 a Swedish biologist named Carl Linnaeus developed a system to name plants and animals. The system based upon the Latin language, uses names in a format
similar to our surname and first name, e.g. (John Brown). The Genus (surname) usually starts with a capital letter whilst the Specific name (first name) is written in lower
case. E.g. Killer Whale – Orcinus orca
