How to make the ID: The stonefly nymph has two distinct tails. Adult has two pair of wings folded down the length of the body.

Its Color: tan, brown, gold, black

How it reproduces: lays eggs on top of the water that drift down to the bottom.

Metamorphosis: Incomplete

It is food for: trout and other species of fish

Its food: some stoneflies are carnivorous, others feed on algae, bacteria, and vegetable debris.

Indicator: cleaner water, swift flow, important food for coldwater fish such as trout.

Size: about 1 inch in length
