Introduction
There are many ways for all people to help prosthetic users and amputees. Organizations and sponsored groups exist that contribute to the welfare of amputees. Many books have been written on the subject as well. A short list is available by clicking here.

Organizations
Online resources prove to be extremely supportive and helpful to those who use prosthetics. Organizations such as the Athletic Prosthetics Nonprofit Organization, reach out to people to inform them about prosthetics. On this website, a person can learn about amputees, what prosthetics are and can read stories about people who have used prosthetics. The organization even has a way to make donations, for those who want to help out. These donations go toward the creation and design of refined prosthetics, to the production of videos to show movement of a prosthesis, toward athletic training and administrative support. There are many more organizations that can be found online and through hospitals and doctors. Some of these can be found on our site, in the Interactive section (Additional Resources: Internet Resources.)

Prosthetics
Many people are not informed about the uses and effects of prosthetics, and to help promote the facts, books and resources are available that contain important information. Books written by prosthetic users themselves, and by doctors who work with these users, and prosthetic creators themselves, tell of experiences. There are also many websites that offer the information. These books and online sources can be useful to learn about how a prosthesis works, what types of prosthetics there are, and what it is like to wear and use one.

Support Groups
For prosthetic users and families of those who use them, there are support groups where people can share their experiences, offer their help and learn more about prosthetics. Online websites, chat groups and online medical advice can be found easily. Local area support groups can also be found through hospitals and local doctors.

For those who do not have time to start foundations or conduct fund-raisers, there are ways of helping prosthetic users and amputees. Organizations that provide information and accept donations are places to offer help. There are books and online resources to give first hand accounts, and doctoral points of views on prosthetics. Support groups are widely available. They are great places to share your stories and to learn more. Getting involved in the world of prosthetics is a great way to help someone.
