Synopsis
“Finding Nemo” is a very popular Disney Studio movie with a theme relevant to the content on this website. The film starts with two clown fish, Coral and Marlin, who put their eggs in a cave. A barracuda comes by and
eats the eggs and Coral. After the barracuda leaves, Marlin goes and finds only one egg which he names Nemo. Nemo was born with a broken fin, which Marlin and Nemo called his “lucky fin.” After an overprotective Marlin finally lets Nemo goes to school, he sees his son get taken by a diver. In order to get his son back, Marlin has to face the open ocean. Along the course of Marlin’s adventure, he runs across Dory, an angel fish with a short term memory, sharks, sea turtles, and jelly fish. With the help (and harm) of these creatures, Marlin is finally able to find his son and be the hero.

Nemo
The main character in “Finding Nemo” had a little fin, also known as a “lucky fin.” Andrew Stanton, the screenwriter, said that this fin was a symbol for all the things that make parents worry about their children. Parents worry that children might not be able to adapt to the world. Nemo is a very inspirational character. He wants to show the other fish, especially his father, that he is capable of doing many things. Nemo doesn't need help all the time, and doesn't like it when his father tries to step in. Nemo is very independent! Many amputees feel this way and can relate to Nemo. Marlin is similar to many parents. He only wants the best for his child and doesn't want his child to get hurt. Marlin learns that he has to let Nemo grow up, just as all parents need to do for their children. Even though Nemo is just a character in an animated film, he still one that many amputees can relate to.

Conclusion
“Finding Nemo” is a very popular and an award-winning movie. It became the world’s highest grossing animated film ever. It is also the best selling DVD ever. It received an Oscar for the best animated feature film. Some other nominations the movie received include Best Original Score, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Sound Editing. More important than the awards, however, is the fact that “Finding Nemo” has had a positive impact on many people. It shows how everyone is different and how disabilities do not prevent people (and fish!) from being independent and from being just about like everyone else. This lesson is extremely important. The film can help younger audiences understand amputations and disabilities. Nemo is an inspiration to many and the movie demonstrates some excellent lifelong lessons.
