Tumors
A tumor is a lump of tissue that forms from cells dividing uncontrollably, often caused by cancer. There are two types of tumors: malignant and benign. When a person has a cancerous malignant tumor, the cancer is able to spread from its original location. Unfortunately, a malignant tumor sometimes requires the amputation of a limb. This stops the spread of the malignant tumor and can save the person's life.

Types of Tumors
Tumors usually occur in the bones, muscle, and skin. Bone tumors are usually not malignant but can cause problems. These tumors weaken the bone, causing it break. Other tumors can press against nerves, causing pain. Skin tumors are abnormal growths of tissue. These may be malignant. Muscle tumors also may be malignant or benign. These muscle tumors invade muscle cells. Many of these tumors, such as skin and muscle tumors, are most common in women and elderly people, although they are also occasionally present in men and younger people. Tumors are serious conditions that can result in amputation of a limb or limbs.
