Nutrition is the study of the human diet and how it affects the body. People all over the world have a main diet, either according to their culture or just what they prefer. Nutrition is very important in maintaining a healthy body. Nutrients give our body energy to carry out work like heartbeat or muscle movement. They also help our immune system fight diseases. Nutrition can be the question of life and death because poor nutrition habit may lead to diseases. Diseases can occur because of lack on nutrients or as a result of obesity. In addition, people can develop eating disorders that can hurt their health and self esteem.

There are variety of reasons why people make poor nutrition choices. First, many people cannot afford appropriate food. In some countries around the world, people do not have enough money to purchase chicken or meat that contain proteins. Therefore, their diet is made of food that they can afford, even if it lacks necessary nutrients. Another reason why people make poor choices is lack of knowledge about nutrition and foods.  Many countries do not provide nutrition education, so people are not aware of nutritional value of foods and how they affect their body.

Culture also plays a role in nutrition habits. Many counties have developed specific nutrition habits based on what was available in their location in history. For example, many coastal countries include fish and shellfish in many of their dishes. Media today also plays a huge role in nutrition choices. In the USA food advertisement is all over TV. And usually advertised food is fast or sugary foods like candy or drive through hamburger places. Many fast food places attract kids with toys and gifts and fun commercials. So, kids want to eat there. This sets them up for a lifetime of unhealthy habits. After all, doesn't French fry taste better than a carrot?
