A obese person has extra fat, and a lot of it! Not just a few extra pounds. Obese people are very overweight and at risk of serious heath problems. When Doctors determine if someone is obese they often use a measurement called body mass index (BMI for short).First he or she measures the height of the person and wieght. Then the doctor calculates another number,The BMI. Once the doctor has calculated a child or teen BMI, it will find this number on a chart to see how it compares to other people of the same age and gender. A person with a BMI above the 95th percentile (meaning the BMI is greater than that of 95 of people of the same age and gender) is generally considered overweight. A person with a BMI between the 85th and 95th percentiles typically is considered at risk for overweight. Obesity is the term used for extreme overweight.
There are many causes of childhood obesity. A child’s guardian is a main cause to childhood obesity. Genetics are a large element to it though. If mom or dad are obese it’s 95% that there children will as well. When a child is growing up, there guardians of the child need to teach the child, what to eat, when to eat, when to exercise, and the amount of time spent on technology.
This is the time to really get the children on the road to a healthy life. A sad thing is when guardians have low income or are unemployed children are likely to be obsess because fast food is the cheapest thing out there. Now days if you look hard enough, gas stations have the healthy food in the back and have small amounts. While stations are loaded with junk food and have more calories than a growing child needs. Exercise is another large cause to obesity. Now children don’t have to go get the mail, or turn up the volume on the radio we have technology to do that. When watching television less than 1% of calories are bring burned, but reading a book can burn 3 times as much calories .To stay healthy exercise, food intake, and calories all need to be balanced. If calories are not burned they will turn in to fat.
Obesity has been growing threw out many years and to prevent obesity children need to be happy, eat right and exercise . Many children have a high risk of dying, or all ready have.
