| Buddhism | Christianity began with the teachings of Jesus Christ. No one knows the exact time of Jesus' birth, but they know it was sometime around 5 B.C. The Jewish religion believes that there is going to be a messiah (the anticipated savior of the Jews). When Jesus claimed to be the messiah chosen by God, many people thought that he was telling the truth. Those people that did believe Jesus, became Christians. The people that didn't believe Jesus, kept their religion. The Orthodox religion was founded in 1054 but had a gradual development. It was found in Constantinople, Eastern Roman Empire by various Eastern church fathers including Patriarch Michael Cerularius. Christianity was broken into two groups at the time: Orthodoxy and Catholicism. The Catholic faith was founded in 1054 but also had gradual development. It was founded by St. Peter and various bishops of Rome. It was originally established in the Rome/Western Roman Empire. The Methodist faith was founded in 1787 in England by John Wesley. This is a reformed religion from the Catholic faith. United Methodist Church is the main Methodist church in the USA. The Presbyterian Church was formed in 1560 in Switzerland and Scotland, by Ulrich Zwinli, John Calvin, Theodore Beza, and John Knox. This is also a reformed religion from the Catholic faith. The Lutheran faith was founded in 1530 in Germany, by Martin Luther and Philip Melanchthon. This is also one of the reformed religions of the Catholic faith.
