As many men as there are in the rodeo, women are an important part of it, too!

Bertha Kaepernick was the first woman to be in a rodeo in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She entered for some fast cash, but she ended up making history!

Another famous Cowgirl was Lucille Mulhall. She was girly, but she was just as strong as any of the men or stronger. She was so good that she held the top spot in the rodeo for twenty years. She was already a skilled roper at age eight.

Calamity Jane is another famous cowgirl. Calamity Jane’s real name is actually Martha Jane Canary. She was born in Princeton Missouri, wore men’s clothes, and was one of the best women with a gun.

But even Calamity Jane couldn’t beat out Annie Oakley She started out as a little orphan girl and worked her was up to worldwide fame. Her name was really Phoebe Moses and it is said that she could shoot off a quails head when she was just twelve years old! Ever since she shot the ashes off someone’s cigarette, her nickname has been “Little Sure Shot”.

Fox Hastings is the only female bulldoggers in the entire rodeo history. She ran away from home at the age of fourteen and became one of the best trick riders of her time.
