Prehistoric Times

7500 BC                     First stone age settlements in Çatalhöyük (near to Ankara)

 

1900 - 1300 BC         Hittite Empire with Hattusas as capital, contemporary with                                  ancient Egpty and Babylon.

 

1250 BC                    The Trojan war and the fall of Troy.

 

334 BC                       Alexander the Great drives out the Persians.

 

130 BC                       The Romans incorparate Anatolia as the province of Asia,                                    controlled from Epeshus

 

 

The Byzantium

 

313                            Roman Empire adopts Chiristianty.

 

330                            Constantine lays out the boundaries of  his new capital,                                      Constantinople (Istanbul ).

 

638 - 7 18                  Muslim Arabs besiege Constantinople

 

1071— 1243               Rise and rule of the Selcuk Turks in Anatolia, Konya is                                        their capital.

 

1096 – 1204               The beginning of the end for the Byzantium.

 

 

The Ottomans

 

1288                          The Ottoman Empire settles in Bursa.

1364                          Murat I wins Sırp Sındığı war and 1st Crusade.
1389                          Cannon ball is first used in the First Kosovo War by the

                                 Turks.
1396                          3rd Crusaders defeates in the time of Yıldırım Bayezid.

1448                          2nd Kosovo Victory is won against Crusaders in the time of                                  Murat II .

1453                          Fatih Sultan Mehmet conquerers Istanbul.

1516                          The Caliphate passes to Ottoman Generation from Abbasi                                    Generation in the time of Yavuz Sultan Selim.

1489-1588                 Mimar Sinan is the greatest architect of Turkish World.

1520—1566                Suleyman the Magnificient controls a huge and powerfull                                    empire.

1593                          War is declared against Germany.

1596                          In the time of Mehmet III , Haçova Victory paves the way
                                 to Vienna.

1632                          Hezarfen Ahmet Çelebi, flows over the Bosporus from
                                 Galata Tower with the help of the wings, which he himself                                  designed.

1683 – 1827               Ottoman Empire is at standstill in this period.

1718—1730                Ottoman Empire follows a policy of peace after Pasarofça                                  Agreement, remaining distant from the events taking place in                                  Europe. (Lale Devri-Tulip Period)
1827-1908                 Ottoman Empire is in retrograde in this period.
1908-1922                 Ottoman Empire is dissolved in this period.
1914                          Turkey allies with Germany in the First World War.
1915                          Gallipoli Victory.


Republic of Turkey (Türkiye Cumhuriyeti)



1919                          Ataturk leads resistance to the allied plan to curve up                                        Turkey.

1923                          Foundation of  the modern Republic of Turkey by Mustafa                                  Kemal Atatruk.

1938                          Ataturk dies in Istanbul’s Dolmabahce Palace.


1939—1945                Turkey manages to remain neutral during the second world                                  war.

1952                          Joins to Nato.

1974                          Cyprus crisis.
