Local Arts Centres; > The Substation
The Substation is Singapore’s first independent contemporary arts centre, and was founded in 1990 by the late Kuo Pao Kun. Its aim is to support research and innovation in the arts and its goals include nurturing and challenging local artists, providing open space for experimentation and fostering art networks in the region as well as globally.
It presents and co-present a wide spectrum of programmes and hosts a variety of artists, from traditional dances to local rock bands; established visual artists to young poets; publications to international short film festivals; experimental theatre to seminal conferences on Singapore arts and culture.
Not only has The Substration worked with some of Singapore’s most famous artists, writers and intellectuals, but it has also been approached by budding artists for support.
