Well-known Local Plays; > Dim Sum Dollies - Singapore's Most Wanted!
Who are the Dim Sum Dollies?
Dim Sum Dollies is Singapore’s well-loved trio who has had 3 successful plays since 2002, starting out with A Single Woman, followed by their smashing Steaming in 2003, and the box office sold-out The Revenge of the Dim Sum Dollies in 2004.
The name Dim Sum Dollies was conceived because:
1) Being typically Singaporean, they love to eat.
2) Dim Sum always comes in threes.
3) Dim Sum is widely varied – just like how they are playing a wide
variety of characters.
Dim Sum Dollies - Singapore's Most Wanted!
Last
year, the threesome returned with Dim Sum Dollies – Singapore’s
Most Wanted!, which is a hilarious satire on everything that is Uniquely Singapore,
as well as the Singaporean way of life. 3 of Singapore’s favourite comedians,
Selena Tan, Pam Oei and Emma Yong, who returned from their box-office hit
Steaming in 2004, worked on a collaboration with Hossan Leong. Directed by
Glen Goei, these 3 divas plot against their husband, spend all their time
in beauty parlours and then run for Prime Minister.
What was lined up in the musical included verbal spars and a Kung Fu (Chinese martial arts) showdown between two renowned Chinese actresses Lucy Liu and Zhang Zi Yi (played by the Dollies); nurses with conversations revolving around the National Kidney Foundation controversy (briefly speaking, a local issue in which the CEO misused public funds and which caused a huge public uproar), as well as persuading patients to help and donate to the organisation; local men (played by the Dollies again) discussing how they like foreign ladies better than “over-educated” scary Singaporean women.
