Tikhvinskaya Church

East-Siberian Coal Company

East-Siberian Coal Company

Tikhvinskaya Church
(of the Tikhvin’s Icon of Our Lady)

(1754-1773)

This wooden church was built in 1706 outside the fortress and consecrated in 1708. The stone church was built in 1754 and consecrated in 1773. The money was donated by the Irkutsk merchant Bechevin. In the fire of 1879 it was partially burnd, but later it was reconstructed. The chronicle of Irkutsk says that it was the richest church in the city. The style of the church was typical of the Siberian baroque. It was richly and beautifully decorated. In 1932 it was demolished, and today the building of the East-Siberian Coal Company stands there.
