The City Theatre

  A wooden theatre at the location of the present one was opened in 1851. It was the first theatre in Irkutsk. The present one was built in 1890 and opened in 1894. Many famous Russian actors performed there and still do. At first only guest troupes performed there, but since 1931 the theater has had its own permanent company.
