Children's railway
"Children's railways should not be only a game, they should benefit a society,
they should cultivate children's love to a railway transportation"
Academician V.I. Obraztsov
This railway, specially designed for young railwaymen, was opened on November, 8th, 1939.
Originally, the length of the children's railway was 3,5 km and it passed in picturesque places near the Ushakovka river, where a pond was built. On August, 2nd, 1992 Children's Eastern-Siberian railway changed the "residence" and was moved to the "Youth" island on the Angara river, which is the favorite place for the rest of citizens.
Today, there is a modern big station, educational classes and the road equipped with the help of new technologies for more than 1000 young railwaymen.
The railway station is located near the educational building. Everything is real there: a cash department, a waiting room with playing machine, an inquiry office with computer network. In this office one can apply for any information from train schedule to flight timetable and traffic roads! In a small cosy cafe passengers can drink a cup of coffee or eat an ice-cream.
In the building of the railway station there is also a museum of history of the Eastern - Siberian railway.
The railroad is served only by young railwaymen, a real railway form was made especially for these children.
The list of specialities offered for the children to study during a year is various. At the first year children study railway specialities and can work as conductors of cars, switchmen and trackwalkers. After the second year they can work as engineer's assistants, electricians, foremen of a train and a way. At the third year children choose a speciality which they like most of all.
In 2003 the Children' railway was renamed after the former chief of Eastern-Siberian railway G.I.Teterskiy.
We can say for sure that nowadays the Children's Eastern-Siberian Railway after the name of G.I.Teterskiy in Irkusk is the leader of children's raiload movement in Russia.
