School for Orphan Girls Established by Elizaveta Medvednikova
The school was a place where girls from poor families and orphans studied. It was a very progressive institution for the time. The money was donated by the widow of the merchant Medvednikoff. The school was opened in 1838, and the building was constructed in 1837. Girls between the ages of seven and sixteen years were taught different subjects as well as needlework. The council of the school continued to be the guardian of the girls until they were married or got a job. Since 1934 this building has housed the Irkutsk Agricultural Institute.
