"Barguzin"

  It is curious that although being the city of theatres, nightclubs & universities, Irkutsk didn’t have any movie theatre till the recent time.
  Approximately 6 years ago the first movie theatre was opened. It was named “Barguzin” after one of the winds at Lake Baikal. It is situated not far from the center. Overlooking the fact that a lot of new cinemas appear, “Barguzin” still has the biggest screen & the best sound. The films presented there are of a big variety, ranging from Hollywood comedies & thrillers to the newest Russian films. Moreover, the system of discounts for students exists, especially on weekends. While waiting for the start of the film, one can have fun in the room of slot-machines.

"Chayka"

  The second movie theatre appeared in the city was “Chayka” (translates as "the Gull"). Actually no new building was constructed especially for the movie theatre, but an old one was rebuilt in more modern style & equipped with new cameras & projectors as well as the newest stereo systems. It’s important to mention, that it is in this very cinema that some new films & cartoons are usually shown.

"Khudozhestvenniy"

  The movie theatre “Khudozhestvenniy” is one of the first movie theatres in Irkutsk. This building was constructed according to the special plan. Now it belongs to the Baikal State University of Economics & Law. The original feature of this movie theatre is that it is always eager to organize special festivals of authentic films on the original language, like British, French, Japanese, Polish and some others.

"Orion"

  The last movie theatre to mention is called “Orion”. It is located in the western part of the city. The original feature of this cinema is that it has 2 halls: the blue one & the red one. In the blue hall various films & cartoons are shown mostly for children, while in the red one - for other categories of visitors.
