Blagoveshenskaya (Annunciation) Church in 1758

Blagoveshenskaya (Annunciation) Church

(1785-1804, 1888-1890)

The church was originally founded in 1758, but the fire halted construction. However, the work resumed in 1785. The money was donated by the merchant Baushev. The surrounding wall was built in 1852. The first church was built in the baroque traditions although the inside decorations were mostly classical. In 1879 the building was partly destroyed during the fire. In its place a new church was built in 1888 to1890. The money was given again by the merchants Telnykh, Dunaev, and Kotelnikoff. It was consecrated in 1890. The second church was built in the Byzantine style, which was typical for Russian nineteenth-century architecture. In the design of the church some conventionalized forms of different periods of Russian history were used.
The church was destroyed in 1931, and a building for the administration of the East Siberian Railway was in its place for a very long period of time.
