The Bazanov Foundling Hospital
The building was constructed from 1881 to 1883. It contained an obstetrics department and a school for midwives. The money was donated by the famous merchant and gold-mine owner, Bazanov. Children younger than a year old were taken care of there. They were mostly foundlings and sometimes poor people's children. All of them were feeble and ill. They were brought up here, and later they were either adopted or taken to the asylum if they were older than eight. Two buildings of the Foundling Hospital remained today. They are now the departments of the medical institute.
