| In a world where parents
need to remind their children to buckle up, wear a helmet,
and don't talk to strangers, it is amazing that there
is not more information given to their kids about internet
safety. Though the internet is filled with a lot of good
information, there is also a lot of possible harm out
there too.
Being wise on the internet will protect you in a variety
of ways. Here are some rules which every child and teen
should follow:
1. Never, ever give your true
name, address, phone number, or any other personal information
to someone you meet on the internet. Also, do not provide
this information on any forms (especially those which
say that you have won a grand prize.)
2.When you come upon a site (or
receive an email) that has anything that makes you feel
uncomfortable, close that site (or email) and let your
parent's know right away.
3. Remember not to download or
install anything unless you are sure of what it is. If
you are unsure, ask your parents. Also, when closing pop
up windows, do not click on the word close because this
might actually start downloading the program. Instead,
click on the X at the upper right of the screen.
4. Your password is YOUR password
and should not be given out or shared with any of your
friends.
5. Remember to be a good citizen
on the internet and never do anything that would harm,
embarrass, or hurt another person and do not do anything
against the law. |
