NEPTUNE

Neptune is 2795 million miles from the  sun, the second farthest away. Fascinating Facts:  It's diameter is 30,740 miles.  Its core is made of melted rock, helium, hydrogen and methane.  It is believed to have at least 8 moons.  One rotation (spin on it's axis) lasts a little more than 16 hours!  One orbit around the sun takes 165 years.  The surface has some storms (like Jupiter).  They aren't as big and they don't last as long, though.

Neptune is tied to mythology because it is named after the Roman God - Neptune, the God of the Sea.  Click on Homer to find out more and read the myth.
