BADGER BURROWS
|
|
|
Badgers have strong front legs and long,sharp
claws which they use to dig out extensive
underground burrows,called setts.The tunnels
can be up to 20m (65ft) long.Generations of
badgers may live in the same sett for hundreds
of years.When digging,badgers can close their
ears and nostrils to keep out dirt.

Ahedgehog has up to 5,000
spines on its back. Spines
are really modified hairs.
Athough they are hollow,
they are very strong and
have sharp points.When
it is alamed, the hedgehog
rolls into a ball and protect
itself with its spines!

This is a european hedgehog.
This hedgehog is a familiar inhabitant
of town parks, gardens, cemeteries,
railway banks and waste grounds.
Male hedgehogs weigh 800 to 1110g
( 28-40oz ) , body about 26cm ( 10in ).
Female generally smaller and weighs
500 to 700g ( 17-25oz ).
They eat worms, caterpillers, beetles.
Anything at ground level they eat.
There are little preditors eat hedgehogs
because of there spines.Fox, badgers and
dogs take hedgehogs ( especialy babies ),
Gamekeepers and motor cars kill far more.
