Life at sea was at once a life of adventure and excitment, a great hardship and a great bore during the long periods of inactivity that pirates experienced when preying on ships. Some of the things done to remedy this extreme boredem were heavy drinking. Large things of beer were consumed due to the fact that once at sea the water would be undrinkable due to its salt content.

Sometimes fights and conflicts broke out, which isn't unexpected due to the large amounts of men on the ship at the same time. These would often be stopped by the Captian. However the Captian was the be all end all of the ship, some times the crew stepped in and over through the captian.
