After a long voyage at sea and a few dangerous plunders the pirates are extremely anxious to have some good old fashioned fun. This kind of fun was mostly getting drunk in taverns, playing games and hanging out with the females. Some pirates ended up spending thousands of dollars on rum, wine, food, and gambling. (In those days 10 dollars would buy a small herd of cattle.) Fun and games wasn’t the only thing that went on while they were on land the most important thing had to go on to be successful at piracy. This was basically re-stocking the ship with fresh food and water. They also had to repair the ship after the long voyage. During battle the sails and rigging had to be repaired and even sometimes replaced. They also needed to scrape off the barnacles and seaweed of the bottom of the ship. Pirates mainly came to land to repair the ship and to buy supplies but the repairs took some time so the crew was able to go out and spend all the money that they got on the last voyage.
