William Kidd was born in 1645 (Exact date still is unknown.). Kidd started out his career as a privateer who found success around the Pacific Ocean until he was recruited by the English. The king asked Kidd to captain the newest and strongest ship in the English armada for the purpose of hunting down pirates and either destroying them or capturing them.

Kidd didn’t really like the crew that he had so in New York he recruited a new crew which most of left him once they reached Madagascar . The crew members that stayed behind told kid that they would deliver mutiny to him if he didn’t attack all ships. Kidd refused with mutiny on his back. When he refused a fight between him and the cannon operator erupted out and in the end Kidd had killed the man. Upon killing this man Kidd was a changed man he now started to sway more towards the life of piracy rather then hunting them down. Kidd started out his pirating career with ships of all kinds along the Malabar Coast in India .

One of Kidd’s most famous battles was when he decided to attack the Quedagh Merchant (a huge treasure ship that weighed approximately 400 lbs. The adventure galley only weighed about 300 lbs.). The captain of the Quedagh Merchant ship noticed that the pirates were approaching and so he hung the white flag. Once the pirate ship got close enough he fired his cannons, but luckily for Kidd the ocean was restless that day causing Quedagh Merchant to miss their mark and allow Kidd’s crew to throw their grappling hooks and take over the Quedagh Merchant. Kidd was planning on taking all the treasure to New York and convince them that he obtained it all from French Merchant ships.
