With all the plundering and mutinies that came along with the life of piracy it is safe to say that it was a very dangerous one at that. The worst fear of a pirate was to become disabled. Most pirates that were injured to the extent of where they could no longer fulfill their designated duties they were compensated for it actually quite adequately. Some pirates that became disabled were offered some less physical work on the ship which sometimes included but not limited to were operating cannon, washing the ship decks and cooking meals.
