Hollywood and other literatures types have romanticized piracy to the generalized and stereotypical views of pirates most people have today. In most cases pirate’s life was a hard and mostly uneventful life. They would spend weeks at sea with out seeing a single ship. In movies and books pirates are always attacking, defending or plundering, which did take place but were more rare occurrences then you would think.

The beginning of the stereotypical pirate’s views came out as early as 1300 A.D. after a Spanish noble published a book on piracy. A Few hundered years later a book called ‘ A General History of the Robbers and Murders of the Most Notorious Pyrates’ was published letting people read of the extraordinary tales of the pirates of the Spanish main.

The Romance continued with such tales as Treasure Island , and other famous books. Eventually with the advancements in live action films pirates began to emerge as entertainers.

Still to this day there are movies continually being made about pirates.
