The restless spirit of John, 1st Earl of Lauderdale wanders around St Mary's Church in Haddington. He died in 1682 and since then has been walking around a lot but nobody knows why
Below is a picture of the church that he walks at night.
Every month for about three years so far Mr and Mrs Cuthill have been having a visit from their ghost. The ghost will come in the middle of the night and then make lots of noise and stop the residents from getting asleep. When the noises were heard for the first time they went downstairs wondering what it was, at first they thought that it might be a burglar but everything was in order and nothing was tampered with. The problem is they aren’t sure if it is a ghost for definite.
There is a well in haddington that is apparently haunted by the ghost of Sir James Stanfield after being killed by his son and his body being discarded down the well.


I have told you about the green lady but that is not the only different thing. Grey or white ladies haunt many of the castles in East Lothian. Here are some instances when there have been some. There is a white lady that appears in Dunbar in the Biel Castle and there is a grey lady that appears in Haddington in the Saltoun hall.
Under the Lauderdale Aisle of St Mary's Church in Haddington lies an evil man. Between routine inspections of the locked vault, custodians were very puzzled to find that the coffin had moved place. Perhaps the man was a ghost and was somehow able to move the coffin to where he wanted it.
Just on the outskirts of Gifford there was a house that half way up the stairs had a door and many years after it had been built the door had been bricked up. So many years later there was an unknown man standing on the middle of the steps but then he turned on his heel and walked through the door so maybe he was a previous owner who had come back and he knew about the door so he walked through it and went to join other ghosts.
