Hugo riding a horse
Sir Hugo was a lord and a suspected wizard! Hugo summoned goblins to make an underground chamber carved from rock for him. It was called the Goblin Ha' (or Hall). Hugo used it as a dungeon to keep his enemies in.

The Goblin Ha' can still be seen today hidden in the depths of Yester Castle. Lots of people have been to the Goblin Ha', but not all of them returned! One healthy man mysteriously had a heart attack and he was only 21!
A wizard
A wizard
Hugo even had a pact with the DEVIL! That was when he became a wizard! The Devil was riding on a black horse with a fiery mane! The Devil said 'I am your ruler, bow down to me' and that's what Hugo did.The Devil thought he was worthy so he made him a wizard. From then on Hugo was called Hugo the Wizard!

A Poem by Sir Walter Scott

Of lofty roof and ample size
Beneath the castle deep it lies
To hew the living rock profound
The floor to pave, the arch to round
There never toiled a mortal arm
It all was wrought by word and charm
