Malayan Krait

The Malayan Krait is # 3 on our most deadly list.  It gets ready to bite without hissing, so you have no warning that it is going to strike.  This snake grows to be about 1 meter long, and it hunts at night.  It is not easily angered and would be called "moderate" on a scale.  Most kinds of kraits are boldly banded in black and white or black and yellow.  They are medium-sized to large snakes with large shiny scales. Their bodies are slender and many seem to be shaped like triangles. Other species, though, have scales that are large and shaped like hexagons. They have a variety of habitats.

Even with anti-venom, some snake bites are still fatal.  The Malayan Krait is unique because the structure of  its venom is different than any other snake.  The krait venom can actually be useful!   Its toxin can treat people with certain muscular diseases!  Kraits (twelve species) live in China, Sri Lanka, Indo-China, India, and other parts of Southeast Asia.
