Coastal Taipan

The Coastal Taipan is # 4 on our most deadly list.  The coastal Taipan is approximately 2 meters long and can be found along the coast of Queensland , Australia .  It can also be found in more tropical areas of Australia on the western side.

This snake has the longest fangs of any Australian snake, and its venom is very poisonous.  It is very strong and aggressive when provoked, and it can bite its victim several times.  Its sides and tail are varieties of reddish brown, dark brown, blackish brown and yellowish, but the colors fade as they go down the sides.

The Taipan likes to hide under fallen logs or in roots of trees, and it prefers to eat mice and rats (rodents).  It will also eat birds and bandicoots.   They are very fast strikers, and are usually actively hunting in the middle of the morning.  Male Taipans are usually larger than the female.  They will most often hide to avoid meeting humans and large predators.
