Friday the Thirteenth

The fear of Friday the 13th is known as Paraskevidekatriaphobia.  (I dare you to try to say it!) The funny thing is, the people who believe the day is unlucky, give no explanation whatsoever for their beliefs!  It seems people fear Friday the 13th only because it is Friday the 13th!  They just believe it is unlucky, but there is no reason or any background information to support it.

Christian Beliefs Might Have Influenced It

The number 13 is imortant to all Christians because 13 is the number of guests who attended the last supper (Jesus and his 12 apostles).  Judas, the one who betrayed Jesus, was the 13th guest to arrive.  Christians have always been worried about Fridays because Jesus was crucified on a Friday.  Also, some researchers say that Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit on a Friday.  On top of that, it is said that the Great Flood started on a Friday.  It seems that all of us give in to our superstitions when it comes to Friday the 13th!
