The Beginning

Upward Bound started when the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 came into effect. The act allowed for 18 programs to be started in the United States in 1965. The program was essentially created as a component of Lyndon B. Johnson's war against poverty. It was designed to come upwith solutions for disadvantaged students who were college bound but no way to get to college. Upward Bound still helps its students today in many more ways than it used to in the past. The program has grown to become still the largest program in the TRiO foundation. It has helped countless amounts of student to apply for and prepare for college.
