All of the mestizo dances of the state of Nayarit are composed of sones and jarabes. Through dance, we imitate a traditional wedding from this state. After the official ceremony, the couple returns to the house of the bride to receive relatives and friends. At this celebration people dance and sing to the beat of the viruela, guitar, and violin. The first dance is for the couple and the family and the friends that accompanied them. The men demonstrate their masculinity by performing tricks with their machetes. Likewise, the women compete to see which one can maneuver their enormous skirts and trying to balance a bottle on their head while dancing.
