     On Day 1 of the Olympics, Chad Hedrick became one of the first Americans to compete, and the first to win gold. Hedrick won in the 5000m speed skating event, blowing away the competition. In 2004, Hedrick became the first American since 1988 to win the allaround world speed skating title. Continuing his father's legacy, Hedrick owns and operates 5 skating rinks around Houston, where his father opened Champions Roller World. Chad is very driven; second is never the best he can do. He is truly one of the modern stars in U.S. Speed Skating.
