About Us

We are 7th Grade students who have been studying local history in our Venture class. We visited sites like the Morrow Beach to view the War of 1812 Monument and Ships Channel in the Great Egg Harbor Bay.

We (Frank, Kevin and Nick) decided to continue the history project by entering our work in the Thinkquest contest. But it wasn't that easy. When we did this project, we experimented with new software, like Dreamweaver and Photoshop, and were totally lost for some of it. But with hard work and some trial and error we were able to overcome it. The software was hard to figure out, but it was even harder to figure it out with just three people. Now some teams have less but we had to figure out new software too. With these minor setbacks we were still able to get our site in by the deadline. Frank worked on the template design including the banner. Kevin worked on the Game Page and About Us. Nick worked hard on the SomersPedia page. All of us worked on the Interviews and research for the Folklore page.

Global Perspective

We have learned that The Great Depression and World War II affected local people and people around the world. When the people we interviewed talked about being poor, it helped us to better understand poverty around the world. We hope students looking at our project will listen to the elderly in their community too. Learning history in a personal way is more interesting that memorizing facts from a textbook!
