Edgar Degas was a French artist; He was born on July 19, 1834 in Paris, France. He died on September 27, 1917 in Paris. He was known as the master of painting the human figure in Motion. Degas was an impressionist painter. Impressionists put paint thickly on to canvas, they use brighter colors. Some of the first impressionists where not allowed in the Salon, the biggest art show in France. Degas left Paris in 1854 and went to Italy to study Italian art especially Renaissance works. He returned to Paris in 1859. He painted portraits of his family and friends.
