Japan is an island that lies off the east coast of Asia in the North Pacific Ocean. Four large islands make up part of Japan. Thousands of other islands make up Japan. The four major islands form a curve that extends for about 1,200 miles. Japan is one of the most densely populated countries in the world because about 127 million people are crowded on these islands.

They have school Monday through Friday and a half day two Saturdays a month

High schools are expensive and private and they are three years and you have to take a test to get in.

In traditional homes the rooms are normally separated by sliding paper screens they also live in high rising apartments.

¼ of the people live in rural areas make their living by fishing.

Businessmen in Japan normally wear a dark colored suit with a white shirt.

Most working women wear a skirt, blouse, and jacket to the office.

Most popular sports in Japan are Baseball and Sumo wrestling.

Some women wear kimonos.

Most Japanese people who live in cities and suburbs enjoy a high standard of living. Many work in banks, hotels, offices, and stores. Others hold professional or government jobs.

On special occasions, such as weddings, funerals, or New Year's celebrations, Japanese women may dress in the traditional long garment called a kimono. A kimono is tied around the waist with a sash called an obi and worn with sandals known as zori. Japan’s total economic output is only exceeded by the United States. Japan manufactures a wide variety of products, including automobiles, computers, steel, television sets, and tires. The country's factories have some of the most advanced equipment in the world. Japan imports many of the raw materials needed for industry and exports finished manufactured goods. The Constitution does not let Japan using military forces to wage war. But Japan does have a Self-Defense Agency created to preserve Japan's peace, independence, and national security.
